Status : an Association under the law of 1901

Creation : November 1981 (Official Journal of 17th December 1981) In 1980 Cordouan lighthouse almost disappeared forever : it had become too costly and was no longer of any use as a result of technological progress, with the result that the Lighthouse and Beacons Service were seriously thinking of abandoning it. Supported by the State, the Region and the Department, the Association has worked tirelessly to have it restored and to ensure it continues to be manned.

Objectives : The aims of the “Association pour la sauvegarde du phare de Cordouan” are to study, promote and do everything possible to ensure the survival of Cordouan lighthouse, classified as a historical monument in 1862, and in particular by promoting it through all available channels (pamphlets, visits, media support….)
